Q&A

You've got questions? We've got answers.

What to consider before starting a renovation

Q: Where do I start?
A: Start with anything that inspires you —a Pinterest image, a favorite piece of art, a mirror, even a faucet. Any detail can spark the design. Our typical project begins with flooring or cabinets, which then guide the colors, textures, and overall style. If you're stuck, visit Our Partners page.

Q: What are the pitfalls in renovating?
A: One major pitfall is that the "new" can outshine the "existing," making older elements look out of place. For example, a new backsplash might highlight outdated outlets—leading to updates that extend beyond the original scope. Renovations can snowball quickly. To avoid this, set clear boundaries upfront and embrace some contrast.

Q: Do I want "better" or brand new?
A: This is a key decision. A 30-year-old bathroom wall may have layers of paint and old patches—we can refresh the surface or replace the drywall entirely. It comes down to where your dream meets your budget. Clear, shared expectations from the start, lead to the most satisfying results.

Let's talk dollars and cents

Q: Do you offer in-house financing?

A: No, not at this time. But visit Our Partners page for help in this direction.

Q: Do you accept credit cards?

A: Yes. With the exception of AMEX, we accept all major credit cards. This form of payment has a 3% convenience fee added.

Q: How is a typical project payment structured?

A: 1) We take a deposit for the materials unique to your project. Once the work commences, 2) we structure progress payments to coincide with the duration of the project. 3) We build in a 5% hold-out for the punchlist creation. This protects our clients and incentivizes us / subs to meet & exceed expectations.

Q: Why do you need a deposit?

A: Most projects require construction materials / cabinetry / tile / solid surfaces unique to the scope of work. A deposit covers these costs.

Let's talk project preparedness

Q: What do I need to do before the project work commences?

A: We work through a comprehensive checklist with our clients before the work begins. This helps us outline expectations and it prevents mishaps. Who moves the grand piano / china hutch? Is there a medical device connected to your internet? Do you have a wanderlust pet? These details are best-covered proactively.

Q: What if I have some/all of the materials on hand already?

A: Perfect! Depending on the project and material, waste factors vary. We are happy to run through the calculations with you to make sure we can successfully complete your project without delays.

Q: I have a guy for that!

A: We are happy to share the sandbox. Whether it's a DIY homeowner who wants / likes hands-on, or you've already picked a tradesman to handle a particular aspect of the project, we collaborate as you prefer.

Q: How do I know what to expect for fit and finish?

A: We have a comprehensive list of fit and finish Performance Standards we will walk through together before the work commences. This helps us share expectations up front.
